A trip on the Rocky Mountaineer is certainly one for the bucket list! Experience the magical Canadian West through the Rocky Mountains! This journey takes you between Vancouver and Calgary and includes the stunning mountain towns of Lake Louise and Jasper. Experience the Columbia Icefield on an Ice Explorer, the Glacier Skywalk and the Banff Gondola.
Your journey begins in Vancouver, where you’ll have one night to explore this scenic coastal city. Vancouver is known as the gateway to both the Canadian Rockies and Alaska! Discover Stanley Park, one of the largest urban parks in North America, or take a small ferry to Granville Island for some grand dining and retail therapy.
The next day, you’ll board the Rocky Mountaineer heading to Kamloops. On today’s journey, you will see dramatic changes in scenery, from the lush green fields of the Fraser Valley, through forests and winding river canyons surrounded by the peaks of the Coast and Cascade Mountains, to the desert-like landscapes of the BC interior. Highlights include the rushing waters of Hell’s Gate in the Fraser Canyon and the steep slopes and rock sheds along the Thompson River.
Your journey continues north and east to the mighty Canadian Rockies and the province of Alberta, climbing ever nearer to the high peaks of the Continental Divide. Witness the incredible Mount Robson, at 3,954 metres, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies, followed by Pyramid Falls and the climb over the Yellowhead Pass into Jasper National Park. The following morning, you’ll have a full day to enjoy the resort town of Jasper. The surrounding national park offers various activities, from relaxation to adventure.
Continue your journey as you travel from Jasper to Lake Louise via one of the most scenic highways in the world, the Icefields Parkway. Bow Lake, the Columbia Icefield, Glacier Skywalk, and Athabasca Falls are among the day’s highlights. Ride on an Ice Explorer to the middle of the Athabasca Glacier to learn about its geological features. Spend your night and the following day in the awe-inspiring Lake Louise, where you can learn about the local wildlife, paddle the lake by canoe, or simply relax amongst the picturesque scenery.
For your last tour of activities, enjoy a full-day tour concluding in Calgary. Begin the morning with a sightseeing tour of Banff and a ride on the Banff Gondola. Among the points of interest are Bow Falls, Surprise Corner and the Hoodoos. Your trip ends the next day as you prepare to return to Dublin.
