This holiday to America is all about music. Visit two cities synonymous with American music; Memphis, the home of The King of Rock ‘n Roll – Elvis Presley, and Nashville, spiritual home of country music fans and performers across the globe.
Nashville is a Mecca for music fans. Visit Opryland the home of the world-famous country music show, the Grand Ole Opry. No visit to Nashville is complete without attending one of these shows in person. The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum features a permanent exhibition ‘Sing Me Back Home’, a journey through the history of country music, featuring a rich collection of historical costumes, memorabilia, instruments, photographs and manuscripts.
Memphis, on the banks of the Mississippi river, attracts fans of The King from all over the world. No trip there is complete without a visit to Graceland, where you can explore the personal side of Elvis Presley on an interactive tour of Graceland Mansion. Stroll down Beale Street at night, home to over 25 music venues, you are sure to find entertainment of the highest quality. Here you will also have ample opportunity to sample the famous Memphis soul food that attracts so many visitors to the area.
The Stax Museum of American Soul Music is another great destination to check out some of the city’s rich musical history. Stax Records was the most successful soul music studio in history – recording the likes of Isaac Hayes, Otis Redding, and the Staple Singers. The record label also served to bring about social integration at a time when segregation was still a grim reality in the USA. A visit to the Mississippi River Museum on Mud Island is also highly recommended.
