Staff Review

“Grab your friends and your favorite song requests and head for Howl at the Moon, the world’s greatest rock ‘n’ roll dueling piano show. From Billy Joel classics to modern-day Lady Gaga pop tunes, my friends and I spent the first night and every night thereafter singing along to favorite songs from the 70s, 80s, 90s.”

Miami

Day 1 | Arrive at 8am

Famous for its year-round sunshine and miles of white sand beaches, Miami’s a great place to soak up some rays. Chill out in chic South Beach with its pastel-painted art deco buildings and people watching pavement cafés, or head inland to the swamps of the Everglades, where alligator watching is more the thing.

Day 3 | Arrive at 10am (8 hour stay) | Depart at 6pm (14 hour sail)

First the geography – Roatán is one the three Bay Islands some 30 miles off the coast of Honduras and it’s about 30 miles long and two wide. Now what you really want to know – it’s got gorgeous beaches backed by tropical forests, sensational diving and snorkelling over the beautiful Belizean Reef and adventures like kayaking, horse riding and hiking the jungle trails.

Day 5 | Arrive at 8am (9 hour stay) | Depart at 5pm (15 hour sail)

The port of Costa Maya was purpose-built for fun… with a touch of Mexican fiesta added for good measure. Step ashore and you’ll find shops, bars, restaurants and a huge saltwater pool, while close by, Mahahual has a great beach and gin-clear water for swimming and snorkelling. And, this being Yucatan, you’re not far from the impressive Mayan ruins at Chacchoben.

Day 6 | Arrive at 8am (11 hour stay) | Depart at 7pm (37 hour sail)

This tiny tropical isle is just 12 miles off the coast of mainland Mexico and packs a lot of action into its diminutive size. Beaches? Of course, and superb diving over the corals of Palancar Reef, as well as 4x4 adventures in the dense jungles of the interior. Go shopping in San Miguel, where mariachi music and ice-frosted margaritas tempt you into laid- back bars.

Tips

Amanda Young,
  • 1. When it comes to what to wear, you can go resort casual or get decked-out and look your best - it’s your call. That’s the freedom of Freestyle Cruising. They even have a special “Dress-Up or Not Night.” It’s the perfect opportunity to get your portrait taken with your family, that special someone or even with the ship’s Captain.

Tips

Rachel Mc Anaspie, Senior Travel Consultant
  • There are casinos with table games and slot machines on board all ships (except Pride of America). So, if you fancy a flutter. Just one thing, you have to be 18 or over to gamble. Sorry kids, but that’s the law.
  • Resort casual dress gets you into every venue at night too. Some people like to add a jacket, or when celebrating a special occasion, get all decked out.
