While most people think of roulette tables, games of blackjack and slot machines when they think of Las Vegas holidays, there is a whole lot more to this amazing holiday destination than the stereotype would have you believe.

Vegas. Those in the know, from big spenders to newly-weds, drop the ‘Las’. Those not yet in the know drop it too because that’s the sort of place it is. Unpretentious and unapologetically over the top. Whatever you imagine Vegas to be, it is. X 10. Expecting to drop your jaw or raise your eyebrows? You will. More times than once on your Las Vegas holiday. And if it’s fun fun fun you’re after, expect it to be served up by the champagne bucket-load.

From the four mile long Strip with its reconstructed Pyramids and skylines of New York and Paris to its lavish hotels and casinos and fabulous street shows, there’s nowhere quite like Vegas. The fact that it’s built in the middle of the Mojave Desert makes it all the more extraordinary. 35 million people visit Vegas each year because they want the volume turned right up. Off the scale in fact. Loud? Not a bit of it. Kitsch? No, no. It’s Vegas. Inimitable.

Arguably America’s greatest natural wonder, the Grand Canyon is an awesome sight to behold indeed. 277 miles long, over a mile deep and with a maximum width of 18 miles, the canyon is open for visitors all year ‘round (weather permitting of course), attracting an average of 5 million tourists each and every year.

Of course, there are many ways to enjoy the breath-taking beauty of the Grand Canyon. Some of the most popular ways of checking out this amazing natural geographic structure include by bus, by horse or by foot (camping with an experienced guide is recommended for that one). For those of you who are feeling a bit more adventurous, you can view the Grand Canyon from above, by means of a helicopter tour or even an aeroplane flight!

While the Grand Canyon is certainly Las Vegas’ most famous natural attraction, it is by no means the only one for you to explore on your trip to Nevada. Only ten miles west of the city of Las Vegas lies the fabled Red Rock Canyon and its beautiful natural scenery. This unspoiled region makes for a lovely distraction from the hustle and bustle of the city, making more a nice mid-holiday excursion.

The Valley of Fire State Park is another striking natural attraction of the Nevada desert. Here you will see amazing red sandstone rock formations which or over 150 million years old, dating back to the late Jurassic period, when giant dinosaurs like Allosaurus and Stegosaurus roamed America. Complementing the rocks’ natural beauty is the cave art of the Anasazi people, some of which dates back to more than a thousand years ago. The Valley of Fire State Park is a unique place which is a must see attraction for geology buffs and would be historians alike.

Sometimes known as ‘Boulder Dam’, Hoover Dam is a huge man-made megastructure located on the Colorado-Nevada border which is used to prevent flooding, control irrigation water and generate hydroelectric power. Construction of the dam began in 1931 and took five years to complete. Standing over 700 feet tall and more than 1,200 feet long, it was easily the largest concrete structure built at the time of completion in 1936. Hoover Dam now welcomes upward of a million tourists each and every year, making it one of Nevada’s top attractions. You can join them by booking a tour here.

If you’re in need of a place to berth down on your Nevada holiday, then look no further than the iconic Las Vegas Strip. This is the place to go when you are vacationing in Las Vegas and is one of the most recognisable sights in America. The Strip’s famous skyline is a veritable cultural melting pot, drawing influences from everything from the pyramids of Egypt to Paris’ Eiffel Tower to create a vision that almost defies belief. If you’re looking for some cool places to stay in Las Vegas, then this is where it’s at. The Strip proudly boasts having 18 of the world’s 21 biggest hotels, including the fabulous Luxor Hotel.

What would Vegas be without its amazing menagerie of world class casinos? If gambling is on your agenda, then this is your promised land. Las Vegas casinos are renowned for their slick attention to detail, with all of the major ones adhering to a specific theme. So whether you’re looking for some ancient Egyptian upholstery or Texas style holdem, the casinos of the Vegas Strip bound to have a style that you’ll feel comfortable in as you try your luck in a casual poker tourney or a high stakes game of craps.

Las Vegas - Get the monorail down to Fremont Street at night and experience old Vegas. Its home to some of Vegas old casinos, wedding chapels, and the famous Vegas Vic and Vegas Vicky neon cowboy and cowgirl signs. Fremont Street has some lively bars where food and drink is cheaper than the strip. It has plenty of street performers and buskers and it is a great place to people watch. A nice alternative to the big shows, clubs and casinos of the strip.
