What to Expect
Fort Myers is just across the water from Cape Coral. Although most people have a good experience of renting private homes with pools, don’t expect them to be on the beach as they are usually in residential areas.
Fort Myers is famous for its beautiful palm trees and tropical climate, just minutes away are the islands of Cape Coral, Sanibel and Captiva with their wonderful white sandy beaches. When you rent a private home in a residential area you will usually be a short drive away from local amenities and bars.
Private properties differ; you may rent a large house, a cottage or a condo. If you want to rent a property that is very close to the beach then you can expect to pay a lot higher rate than you would for one in a residential area. Most of the properties that are advertised will have a pool, but if the advertisement does not state this you should ask or you could be disappointed. Residential areas are usually only a short distance from the local shops and bars and the beach.
Many people who rent a private home may prefer to eat in. If you want to eat out then Fort Myers has plenty to offer from small cafes to some great seafood restaurants and grills. If you go down to Times Square then you will find any number of bars and restaurants, something for all tastes. Times Square is just a few minutes away from Fort Myers and is great if you fancy some noisy nightlife for a change.
There are plenty of water activities at Fort Myers including parasailing and boat tours, scuba diving and kayaking. Local rates will apply, as you won’t be entitled to use any resort facilities. There is some good golfing around the Fort Myers beach area and you can go fishing off the end of the pier at night. The islands around Tampa Bay are worth exploring. Cape Coral is just three hours away from the Disney resorts if you want a family day out, or you can simply enjoy the ambience of old town Florida.
Depends on individual homeowners.
