Travel through the state of Illinois getting a taste of Route 66 and experience mile after magnificent mile.

Begin your holiday with two days to enjoy the Windy City. Chicago is a city that has a little something for everyone to enjoy. You can visit world class museums, catch a show in one of over 200 theatres, enjoy Michelin-star dining, great shopping and abundant nightlife.

Collect your rental car and cruise down Route 66, stopping by Bill Shea’s Gas Station Museum before arriving into Illinois’ capital, Springfield. Explore the legacy of President Abraham Lincoln by visiting his former home, the Presidential Library and Museum. Continue down Route 66 to the Alton area and see the confluence of The Mississippi, Illinois and Missouri rivers along a 33-mile stretch of road rich in history.

From Alton, continue on to Peoria where you can begin your visit at the Riverfront Visitors Center, housed in one of the oldest buildings in Peoria. Explore Peoria’s Riverfront, which is popular for festivals and home to the newly opened Peoria Riverfront Museum. Travel back up the Great River Road, with a chance to stop in Fulton to see the Windmill ‘de Immigrant’ before arriving into Galena, where over 85 percent of the town is considered a national monument. Find a town steeped in rich history dating back to the Black Hawk Wars between the Native Americans and settlers.

Travel through Rockford on your way back to Chicago where your fly drive comes to an end.
