Visit three of America’s most famous cities on this incredible holiday to East Coast USA. You’ll start your holiday to America in Chicago on the stunning shores of Lake Michigan, before heading to the historic university city of Boston and then moving on to take in the fun and excitement of in New York and experience the city that never sleeps.
Start your holiday in Chicago, a city that is steeped in some of America’s richest history and yet it maintains a lively, energetic atmosphere that attracts visitors from all over the world. Chicago is famous for its proximity to the water, thanks to its location on the banks of Lake Michigan. A great way to see the city is by boat; many river boats operate like tour buses with some fantastic ‘hop on, hop off‘ stops.
Boston is the perfect city to explore on foot, dotted with hip and trendy neighbourhoods, modern sky scrapers and historic monuments all within easy walking distance of one another. Explore Boston Common which holds the distinction of being the oldest park in America, unsurprising as Boston is a city steeped in history. One great way to explore Boston is to follow the Freedom Trail. Starting at Boston Common the 2.5-mile (4km) trail links 16 historic sights associated with the early struggle for freedom from British control and the events leading up to the American revolution.
Many of New York’s most famous visitor attractions are very familiar to us but nothing compares to seeing them first hand. Take the Staten Island Ferry and sail past Liberty Island. Seeing the Statue of Liberty up close is a very different experience to seeing it on TV. Stroll through the cobbled streets of the West Village, where the NYC street grid is suspended and bohemian culture, art, music and funky restaurants thrive. New York has so much to offer, there is always something to see or do.
Chicago-Head to the underwater viewing area to catch a glimpse of swimming sea lions or take a guided tour of the hundreds of species on view at the Lincoln Park Zoo. Admission to the zoo is free seven days a week.
