Kickstart your exploration of America's rugged Pacific Northwest in 'The City'. Check-in to your hotel located just a short walk from Union Square and the exotic sights and sounds of Chinatown. Then, take to San Francisco's hilly streets and immerse yourself in its vibrant energy. This evening, you'll meet your Travel Director and fellow travellers at a Welcome Reception.
Admire the orange glow of one of the world's most beloved bridges as you join your Travel Director for a stroll across San Francisco's landmark Golden Gate Bridge. Learn all about the "mighty task" of its construction and why it's not painted gold despite its name. Leaving its iconic arches behind, we drive alongside the towering trunks that frame California's Avenue of the Giants to Humboldt Redwoods State Park en route to the lively seaport town of Eureka.
We view the ornate Victorian architecture on display at Carson Mansion this morning, before travelling to Northern California's, UNESCO-listed Redwood National Park to discover the mighty russet trunks that have towered above the forest floor for over a thousand years. Spend tonight in the quaint Oregon coastal city of Coos Bay.
Buckle up for an exhilarating morning navigating the shifting sands of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area- a windswept adventure through an endless sea of sand, marshes and tree islands. Sweeping coastal views are ours to enjoy as we pass Heceta Head and see its beautiful 19th century lighthouse-the brightest light on the Oregon coast-before checking into our oceanfront hotel for an evening at leisure.
After a leisurely breakfast, board a nature cruise to keep an eye out for sea life and marine birds as the on board naturalist, your Local Specialist, tells you all about your surroundings. With your free time this evening, perhaps explore Newport's historic waterfront.
Celebrate the wonder of man-made flight during a tour of the Evergreen Aviation Museum. Then, escape to Oregon's green and golden wine country and Connect with the Local winery owners for a gourmet Be My Guest lunch before an evening at leisure.
Discover some of Oregon's most beautiful scenery along the historic Columbia River Highway. Stop at Crown Point and the Vista House for panoramic views. Then it's onward to Multnomah Falls, the second highest year-round waterfall in the USA, and Oregon's tallest. Lunch is on your own in Hood River. Visit the award-winning Mount St. Helens Visitor Centre. Learn about the legendary blast, an eruption so colossal that it spewed ash into 11 states. Venture west to the rugged coast of Olympic National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Then meet Harvest Moon, a Local Specialist, who shares with you the tribal legends and stories of the Quinault people who have long called the Pacific Northwest home.
Enter the beautiful Hoh Rainforest, one of the world's few (as well as the largest) temperate rainforests and trek to the eerie "Hall of Mosses" with trees and branches dripping with moss. Then make a stop at dazzling Lake Crescent before leaving Olympic National Park. Sensational views of the Seattle's skyline unfold before you as you make your way by ferry across Puget Sound into the Emerald City and enjoy the evening to explore.
This morning, your choice of sightseeing gives you a chance to visit the Chihuly Garden and Glass Art Museum to see colourful and world renowned glass sculptures, or make the trip to the top of the Space Needle, the iconic landmark of the great Pacific Northwest. Afterward, stop at the historic Pike Place Market, the nation's oldest farmer's market, where the fish fly low-from one fishmonger's hands to the next. After some free time, join your newfound friends for a Farewell Dinner.
