This holiday to the East Coast of America features three of America’s finest cities, New York, the city that never sleeps, Philadelphia the city of brotherly love and the Nation’s capital, the historic and beautiful city of Washington DC.
For most people a first visit to NYC is centred on the island of Manhattan. Stroll through the cobbled streets of the West Village, where the NYC street grid becomes muddled and 4th street actually crosses 4th street! Soak up the atmosphere and bohemian culture; this is where art, music and funky restaurants thrive. Visits to The Met and Guggenheim are also highly recommended for art fans. Ride to the Observatory at the top of the One World Centre in the financial district for a spectacular view over the city’s skyline. Take in as much of the Big Apple as you can before you transfer to your next destination, Philadelphia.
After as many of New York’s museums, galleries, attractions and restaurants as you can fit in, it will be time to head to Philadelphia, known as ‘the friendliest city’ in America. Independence National Historical Park is an eight-block historic neighbourhood in the very centre of old Philadelphia. The birthplace of America, as it was here that the Liberty Bell in Independence Hall rang out, summoning citizens to hear the first public reading of the American Declaration of Independence.
Washington DC’s unforgettable skyline is marked by some of the world’s most iconic landmarks. The White House, the Capitol Building and the National Mall. Visit the Lincoln Memorial and the world-renowned museums of the Smithsonian Institute. Washington’s newest museum, the International Spy Museum, features the largest collection of publicly displayed international espionage artefacts in the world.. Food lovers will relish a visit to Georgetown where you can stroll off-the-beaten path and find delicious treats at the local eateries.
New York-Public transport is the way to get around. The 7-day unlimited ride MetroCard is usually a good deal so you don't spend $2 on MetroCards each time you hop on the train.
Washington-Draft beers, even the fancy Belgian ones, are half-price at Brasserie Beck weekdays between 5 and 7 p.m.
