October half term is the perfect time of year to escape to the states on sunny getaway. So, if you’re trying to think of the perfect place to go get some midterm break sun in the USA, here a few of our travel expert Amanda’s favourite destinations for October sun holidays!
Dallas
Visit the second largest state in the US for some guaranteed October sun and family friendly activities. State fairs and carnivals are tradition during autumn time in Texas – with the annual State Fair of Texas being the biggest and best. Make sure you catch a pig race or the famous World of Magic Show! Head to a Dallas Cowboys’ game for a day out the whole family will love or pop along to the Dallas Children’s Theater for an entertaining show! With flights now available from Dublin to Dallas with American Airlines, it has never been easier to reach this famous US city.
Los Angeles
Take in the sights and sounds of the entertainment capital of the world on your October sun holiday. October in Los Angeles means that the weather is more temperate and the peak summer crowds have died down, making it the best time of year to visit. Spend a few hours at Santa Monica Pier and visit the admission-free amusement park. Universal Studios Hollywood™ is also a must-do when in LA! This famous tourist attraction mixes the magic of Hollywood with all of the fun of a theme park. The kids will be in awe as they watch their favourite movies and TV shows come to life before their eyes!
San Diego
For a relaxing getaway with plenty of sunshine and good vibes San Diego is a top choice. The easy-going California town is best known for their surf culture, so take a stroll along the white sandy beaches and watch as locals and professionals alike hit the waves. San Diego is also home to the world-renowned San Diego Zoo; this zoo is well worth the visit, and kids are free in October!
Hawaii
Keep the heat of the summer but miss out on the heavy rain that comes with winter when you jet away to this island paradise in October. Hawaii is known for its beautiful beaches and lush mountains, so whether you are in the mood for a hike or you want to try your hand at surfing, you are in for a good time outdoors. Get to know the rich history and culture of the islands during a Luau at the Polynesian Cultural Center, or get up close to the wildlife beneath the sea and try some snorkelling.
Orlando
With lower temperatures and less crowds, October is the perfect time to visit the Theme Park Capital of the World, Orlando. Once you have finished exploring Universal Orlando Resort and Walt Disney World Resort, head for Clearwater Beach. Recently named the ‘Best Beach in America 2018’, Clearwater Beach is famous for its perfect white sands and unforgettable sunsets. The kids will love the nearby Clearwater Marine Aquarium or take them on Captain Memo’s Pirate Cruise which features a full pirate crew and children’s entertainers!
