Discover the beauty of America’s National Parks

North America is home to some of the most beautiful National Parks in the world and a holiday spent exploring them is certainly one for the bucket list. America’s National Parks can be explored in a number of ways, from escorted tours to road trips, to camping and trekking holidays so however you fancy experiencing their beauty there’s something for you. In many of the parks you’ll find hiking trails with amazing views, thrilling white water rafting routes, horse-riding and bike trails and driving routes to explore as much of the natural beauty around you as possible.

Some of the most spectacular National Parks in America can be found in California, with the state boasting majestic forestry in Sequoia National Park and Redwood National Park, the soaring peaks, tumbling waterfalls and mammoth lakes of Yosemite National Park and the vast expanse of desert region of Mojave National Park.

California’s neighbouring state of Arizona and a little further into Utah is where you will find some of America’s most famous and most impressive National Parks. Arizona is home to the colossal Grand Canyon National Park and the iconic Monument Valley with its stunning rock formations. Further into Utah you will find Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park and Canyonland National Park, home to some of the most dramatic desert landscapes you can imagine. Want to see what it’s like? Live out your cowboy dreams on a USA Ranch holiday

Saddle up for a one of a kind holiday on a USA ranch! Enjoy days spent horse-riding through some of the most spectacular scenery in the US followed by nights spent around the fire toasting s’mores under the stars! Ranch holidays are spectacular in Utah and Arizona where days can be spent trekking on horseback through National Parks that provide true wild west landscapes of dusty red deserts and dramatic rock formations against a backdrop of majestic mountains.

However if you are after a more authentic experience you cannot beat a Texas ranch holiday! Real Texan cowboys will take you out for horse treks over Texas Hill Country where you can explore some of the most beautiful spots in Texas. Visits can also be made to Fort Worth Stockyards where you can see the famous cattle drive of Texas longhorns while immersing yourself in a western themed stores, restaurants and bars. Back at the ranch you can throw yourself into cowboy life with wrangling demonstrations, cowboy tales around the campfire and you might even pick up the famous Texas Two Step!

Embark on an iconic USA road trip

There is perhaps no more an iconic American holiday than a USA road trip. We’ve all seen the classic road trip movies and thought, I’d love to do that someday – well why don’t you? Experience the freedom of the road, the vast space of the American outdoors and the time of your life.

Route 66 is perhaps the most famous road trip in the USA. This 4,000km route that stretches from Chicago, Illinois to Santa Monica, California taking in places such as Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada watch the stunning scenery around you change as you drive across the nation taking in original Americana road-signs and stops, national parks and iconic cities.

California is another great spot to take in the perfect American road trip. Pop the top down as you drive along the beautiful West Coast with the sun on your back! Travel down the famous Highway 1 or hit the Pacific Coast Highway and visit the picturesque sea side towns that dot the coast such as Half Moon Bay, Santa Cruz, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara.

Further south, down in Florida, a Miami to Key West road trip offers spectacular scenery, as you drive over The Overseas Highway through the hundreds of small islands that make up the Florida Keys, along the famous Everglades National Park and John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park to Key West where you can treat yourself after the drive to a Hemmingway Cocktail in the glorious Florida sun.

Discover the Florida Everglades

Spanning over 1.5millions acres in Southern Florida, the Florida Everglades is a watery grassland of wetlands and forests, home to a huge variety of wildlife from birds to turtles and of course the famous alligators! One of the most popular ways to explore the Everglades is on an airboat tour, a thrilling experience through the wetlands with a guide who will talk you through all the wildlife you can find in this natural habitat as you keep your eyes peeled for alligators! If you prefer to get more active there are options to canoe or kayak, hikes along trails or rent a bike and hit one of the biking trails through this unique area. You might even fall so in love with it, you take the option to camp out overnight there.

Embrace American History

With plenty of extra time on our hands, lots of us have developed new hobbies and interests and for some of us it might be history! So why not see for yourself first hand some of the places you learned about brought to life!

Pennsylvania should be the first stop for any history lover. Gettysburg, the site of the famous Battle of Gettysburg and Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address embraces its links with history today and visitors learn all about the civil war while roaming through the home of it’s most famous battlefield. Meanwhile across the state, Philadelphia is where the Declaration of Independence and American Constitution were signed. With so much history in this city, we definitely recommend taking a historical walking tour of Philadelphia so you capture every story these streets have to offer!

The East Coast of the USA has plenty more to offer for history lovers. Boston is regarded as the birthplace of the American Revolution. Follow the Freedom Trail, a 2.5km walking route that brings you to some of the most important historical sites from the American Revolution and beyond. A visit to Washington DC will allow you to visit some of the most iconic buildings in the USA’s history including The Washington Monument, the Capitol Building, the White House and the National Mall can all be found here. All the museums in Washington are free to visit so make the most of your time here and soak up all that you can!

We hope our suggestions have got you dreaming of all the fantastic things we can do when we travel again. Our travel experts are always on hand when you are ready to start calling that dream a plan!

Favourite Destination: Escorted Tour Holidays

I love going on escorted tour holidays as I find them a great way to see the USA. Travel with a group of like minded visitors, led by a travel director who knows all the best spots to go! I especially enjoy escorted tours to the Deep South where you can soak up all the fantastic music culture and history, New England in the fall to take in all that amazing nature and scenery and to Canada to see the majestic scenery of the Rocky Mountains!
