Let the good times roll as you discover the Big Easy's vibrant drinking culture on the original cocktail walking tour of New Orleans. Explore the French Quarter's famous bars and restaurants as you sip the city's iconic libations, including the Sazerac and Pimm's Cup. On the 2.5-hour tour, learn the classic stories behind these unique concoctions as you wander through the colonial architecture of one of New Orleans' oldest neighborhoods, drinking in history and culture as you go.

Embark on your exploration of New Orleans' cocktail culture from the Gray Line Lighthouse Ticket Office, right on the Mississippi River in the city's French Quarter. Your group of like-minded 21-and-up revelers will travel the neighborhood's historic streets, ducking in and out of watering holes and restaurants in buildings that still stand as beautiful examples of French and Spanish Colonial Architecture.

While it's easy to get lost in the history of your surroundings, the real stars of the tour are the cocktails. Listen in as your guides reveal the stories behind each inventive libation and the characters that brought them to life. Learn the origins of Southern Comfort, a liqueur invented in New Orleans in 1874, and the even older story of the Sazerac, which dates back to 1850. Sample any of your favorites by purchasing a glass.

You'll also get an inside peek into the city's oldest restaurant and its wine cellar and private dining rooms, where some of New Orleans' most important wheelings and dealings took place. Drink in the spirit of New Orleans by enjoying this 2.5-hour tour at the beginning of your visit to the Big Easy to pinpoint the stops you must revisit, or use it as an unexpected way to bid adieu to a city that's as rich in stories as it is in drinks to share them over. It's history—with a twist!

This tour was a great way to see into the history of partying in New Orleans! We stopped at four establishments where we sampled famous drinks and got explanations of the history of the old bars and restaurants. This was History with a Twist according to our tour guide Joe Gendusa - he's written a book with that title!! He was so knowledgeable - after 4 cocktails our memory might be less than ideal, but Joe still knew his stuff. He was clearly personally acquainted with the folks at the places we stopped and was able to take us through exclusive rooms in Antoine's Restaurant. He made the tour both informative and fun. Beware the Fairy Wing - the last cocktail - the absinthe seemed to magnify the effects of the earlier cocktails!

The New Orleans Original Cocktail Walking Tour was the highlight of my recent visit to New Orleans. My family and I really enjoyed seeing all the different bars / restaurants and hearing about the history behind them. All the drinks were delicious. Joe was absolutely the best tour guide ever. We appreciated his interaction with the group, as well as, his energy and enthusiasm as he told the stories and history of New Orleans. I, myself, am not a history fanatic, but thoroughly enjoyed this history lesson!

I love this tour. I did it about ten years ago and we went to totally different bars/restaurants this time with totally different drinks, stories, bar history etc. Same WONDERFUL guide. This time we were on the tour when New Orleans was experiencing extremely heavy rain. Our guide handed out little ponchos and off we went. We all got wet walking in the flooded streets, but the tour was still FANTASTIC!
