Day 2
We start the tour by taking you on an included sightseeing tour of Boston, which is an excellent introduction to this fabulous city. The tour will include all the highlights – the Freedom Trail, Faneuil Hall, Old North Church, Boston Common and Copley Square. The afternoon is at leisure to walk the Freedom Trail that traces the history of the city. If your feet begin to tire, Boston Common, the original heart of town is a pleasant place to rest.
Standard Hotel: Midtown
Day 3
Today we head south to Plymouth to see a replica of the Mayflower, the ship that brought the first settlers to the New World, and Plymouth Rock, where they allegedly landed. Next it’s on to the Plimoth Plantation, a living museum recreating the 17th Century lifestyle the pilgrims led. Following our visit to the plantation we head to Cape Cod and the resort of Hyannis for a two-night stay. Cape Cod was originally named by Bartholomew Gosnold in 1602, after the ample fishing grounds to be found off the Cape’s shores. The Cape in recent years has been more synonymous with its most famous residents – the Kennedy Family. An optional Harbour cruise allows you to view the Kennedy compound from the water.
Standard Hotel: Hynanis Harbour
Day 4
Today we include a round-trip ferry boat journey to Martha’s Vineyard. Once a place where wild grapes grew, this charming isle is now a popular resort. Located just 7 miles off the Massachusetts coastline, the beautiful island of Martha’s Vineyard is a world apart, offering an ambience unlike any other. Explore the diversity of the six towns, take a long walk along the shore and step back in time to a more leisurely place.
Standard Hotel: Hyannis Harbour
Day 5
This morning we head to the coastal playground of Newport, Rhode Island. Newport was once the home of the America’s Cup and has been America’s premier resort since the 1880’s. There will be time in the centre for shopping, sight seeing and lunch or take the opportunity to visit the Marble House, one of the most impressive mansions on the coast. This afternoon we continue northwesterly to the town of Sturbridge. The scenery begins to change as we start to approach the changing colours of the trees and head farther into the country.
Standard Hotel: Sturbridge Host Hotel
Day 6
After our morning in Sturbridge we travel northwards today and begin our climb through Massachusetts and onto Vermont. We pass through areas of scenic beauty as the open farmlands spread before us, the colours of the trees become more pronounced and the fresh air more obvious! We head directly to Stowe, the year round resort – famed for it’s skiing, ice cream factory and of course the maple syrup! We stay in Stowe overnight.
Standard Hotel: Mountaineer Inn
Day 7
Today we leave the mountains of Vermont for the mountains of New Hampshire, passing through the town of Montpelier. Our route takes us through the countryside and villages of Vermont, noted for their wooden clad houses and white washed churches. Later, we travel along the Kancamagus Highway through the high peaks of the White Mountains to North Conway. The White Mountains can claim to suffer the most severe weather in the world, with the tree line standing at a mere 4,000 ft, as opposed to the 10,000 ft on the other side of the continent in the Rockies.
Standard Hotel: Grand North Conway
Day 8
This morning you will be treated to a trip on the Mount Washington Cog Railway, the world's first mountain-climbing cog railway remains, as it has for well over a century, an exciting and unforgettable experience. Some days the view from the summit of Mount Washington spans four states, Québec, and the Atlantic Ocean, limited only by the curvature of the Earth. Other days you literally climb above the clouds. The remainder of you day is at leisure.
Standard Hotel: Grand North Conway
Day 9
Enjoy your final morning in New England before we return to Boston in time for your return flight home. If you are continuing to an ‘Extend Your Stay’ city, you will be transferred to Boston Logan Airport for your flight.
