This is the much talked about Coronado Victorian seaside resort. The exterior of the hotel has white siding and a turreted red roof and the interior has been fully refurbished in a complementary style. The hotel still has its original birdcage elevator, which has been updated with automated controls; it is run by a uniformed operator. You will find that the hotel lobby is always busy with new arrivals, including conventioneers and history buffs as well as families on vacation.
Amenity Highlights:
Known locally simply as the Del, the resort has plenty to offer its visitors, including Jet Ski and boat, and bike rentals. For those who prefer less strenuous activities, yoga classes are held on the beach. You may want to enjoy the new and well appointed spa with its variety of treatment rooms and relaxation areas for both sexes. The resort also offers various activities and programs for tots and teens. The resort is said to have a resident ghost that goes by the name of Kate Morgan.
Property/Local Amenities:
The resort has twenty eight acres of ocean front and the hotel is situated next to Coronado Beach and downtown San Diego is just five miles distant. Fully renovated in 2007, along with the new spa, the resort also contains restaurants, shops and cottages. Expect to see velvety green lawns and beautiful gardens outside and an elegant ball room inside that can be hired for weddings and other functions. There is also a business centre attached to the hotel with computers and great internet access. For self improvement enthusiasts, the new fitness centre has personal trainers who are available by appointment. Whether you want haute cuisine or fast food, there are six restaurants in the resort so you are bound to find something to suit. The resort also has swimming pools, beach activities and boutiques; there is a smoke free policy in all buildings.
Rooms:
The hotel has 757 rooms and 25 suites, which are divided between the Victorian building, Ocean Towers, California Cabanas and Beach Village. Rooms are decorated in a modern way apart from rooms in the Victorian building where the rooms have period décor. Furnishings include wicker and cane furniture and many beds have carved wooden headboards. Some of the units have patios or balconies and shuttered windows and all rooms are non-smoking. Dining:
The resort has its own restaurants and guests can choose local cuisine, California favourites, seafood and brunches. Restaurants include the following.
1500 Ocean is the resort’s signature restaurant and it offers south coastal cooking with fresh, local ingredients. The restaurant includes a terrace bar and seating with views across the ocean and live entertainment every night. The restaurant only serves dinner.
Sheerwater is an ocean front restaurant that has a state of the art kitchen offering traditional California dishes. The Sheerwater also has a large, outdoor, heated terrace and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Crown Room offers Sunday brunch; the restaurant has a 30 foot high sugar pine ceiling.
Babcock and Story has both an indoor and an outdoor lounge, it is adjacent to the Sheerwater and specialises in tropical drinks and fine wines.
ENO offers 500 different wines and a huge variety of cheeses from around the world, it also offers local chocolates.
Recreation:
The Coronado is an oceanfront resort and offers all kinds of outdoor activities, including boating and biking. There is also a new fitness centre and use of classes is included in the resort cost, guests are also offers $20 off fees for La Costa Golf Course.
