Texas,
nicknamed the Lone Star State from its stint as
an independent republic in the early 1800s, is
the second-largest state in the USA. This enormous
state also has immense geographical diversity.
Across Texas and you'll see desert plains in the
Texas Panhandle, to scenic wildflowers and lakes
in central Texas Hill Country. Texas borders Mexico
along the Rio Grande and embraces vast mountain
ranges and canyons to the west. North Texas is
home of the cattle ranges and oil fields that
fuel the state's economy. While south Texas terrain
ranges from beaches along the Gulf of Mexico to
citrus groves and low-lying plains.
While the cowboy still exists in Texas, the state
is now decidedly more urban than rural. It has
four major cities: Dallas, Houston, San Antonio,
and its capital city, Austin. Texas today is as
much a leader of high-tech industries as it is
an agricultural and ranching state, the state’s
great wealth stems from its vast oil reserves.
Austin the state capital is a city with a rich
historic past, and home to Bob Bullock Texas State
History Museum and the University of Texas. Dallas
is a major center for banking, finance, and oil,
and has more shopping centres than any other US
city.
San Antonio is one of Texas's most well-known
historic regions and is very beautiful. While
Houston is a vibrant city, best known for the
N.A.S.A, space centre.
