Introduction

Pennsylvania is bordered by the states of New York , New Jersey , Delaware , Maryland , West Virginia , and Ohio . It is a diverse state, with both contrasting terrain and culture. Not only is Pennsylvania the home of two major cities Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, but also the Pennsylvania Dutch, such as the Amish and Mennonite sects, whose lifestyles have changed little since they settled in the fertile rural areas in the 18th century.

For the visitor, Pennsylvania 's landscape is one of hills, plateaus, ridges, valleys, rivers and lakes, all of which make for glorious natural attractions, such as the vast Allegheny National Forest and the Pocono Mountains . The Great Lakes Region of Pennsylvania not only has Victorian homes and old-fashioned storefronts dotting the lush forest landscape, but also overlooks the sprawling waters of Lake Erie, and the treasures of Presque Isle State Park . While the Mountain Region is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, with skiing and snowboarding in abundance. Pennsylvania Dutch Country is home to Harrisburg , the state capital of Pennsylvania , Hershey - the chocolate capital of the world and Lancaster County - the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch Country. Visitors interested in the colonial era will enjoy Pennsylvania Dutch Country. The town of Gettysburg is famous for the Battle of Gettysburg, which changed the course of U.S. history.

Philadelphia is Pennsylvania 's main city and a city with an impressive past, famous for historic sites such as the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall and the surrounding hills of Bucks County and the Amish Country. It has a beautiful urban centre full of world-class museums, performing arts centres, terrific restaurants and a thriving nightlife scene. Pittsburgh was once reknowned as an industrial city, today however Pittsburgh is known as a ‘Renaissance city'. It is filled with a wealth of cultural and historical landmarks, and the visitor can breathe freely in bright urban landscapes, bustling city sophistication and a great outdoors.
