This area has a haphazard layout of streets, while further north Manhattan has a regular street grid, with avenues running north-south and streets running east-west.
New York City is perhaps the only place on earth where you can make a trip around the world within the confines of a single city. In addition to the lively mixture of cultures and all of the city's amazing food, music, theatre, art and literature you'll find an exhilarating and often overwhelming energy among New York 's eight million residents.
New York is above all, a walker's city. Along its busy streets, an endless variety of sights unfold everywhere you go, every inch of New York has something worth while to see, however tourists most commonly flock towards lower Manhattan and Midtown where you will find the Broadway theatres and the sky scrapers that give New York its amazing skyline. Lower Manhattan including the financial district is the metaphorical home of U.S Commerce; from here you can access the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island from Battery Park or even take a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge . The two long-time ethnic enclaves Chinatown and Little Italy are just north of the financial district. South St Seaport and Wall St , are a must see while sightseeing in the Lower Manhattan area. Midtown refers to the largely commercial district north of 34 St to 59 th street , an area that includes Rockefeller centre, Times Square, the Empire State Building , the Broadway Theatre district, Grand Central terminal, Madison Sq gardens, Port Authority Bus terminal and many of the major hotels.
