  MISSISSIPI

Introduction

The beautiful ‘Magnolia State’ is a land of great variety, with wide-open spaces, white sand beaches, bustling cities, quaint little towns and a real feel of the Deep South. From the bustling excitement of metropolitan Jackson to the sultry sea breezes and sun-drenched beaches of the Coast and the bright lights and fast-paced action of Tunica, it all adds up to one great experience. With a legacy of turbulence and grandeur, Mississippi's history takes center stage for visitors. You can see the antebellum homes created by the riches of the slave era, then revisit the Civil War battles that brought an end to the plantations. This is the State where the key battle of the American Civil War was fought (at Vicksburg in 1863) and where racial strife erupted with terrifying force in the 1960s. Mississippi's more recent history includes a boom in gaming establishments, and although they may be less romantic than the state's pillared mansions, they draw a lot of travelers. Mississippi's short but attractive shoreline along the Gulf of Mexico shouldn't be overlooked, either, as it offers both developed resort areas and the quiet preserves of the Gulf Islands National Seashore. The mighty Mississippi River, thousands of acres of lush parkland and the Gulf of Mexico coastline combine to make Mississippi a popular tourist destination
