Michigan
is the only state that borders on four of the
five Great Lakes. Michigan consists of two peninsulas;
these are divided by Lake Michigan, and linked
by one of the world’s longest suspension
bridges across the Straits of Mackinac. Lakes
Superior, Huron and Erie also form the State’s
shorelines. In addition to being surrounded by
the small "seas" of the Great Lakes,
Michigan has 11,000 inland lakes, providing perfect
conditions for recreational activities such as
boating, fishing, swimming or simply taking in
the shoreline scenery.
The Upper Peninsula is a great location to visit
as forests, white beaches, trout streams and winter
ski resorts are dotted across the landscape. The
Lower Peninsula is mainly agricultural and industrial,
it contains inland lakes, meadows and sandy beaches,
as well as the ‘Motor City’ of Detroit,
Michigan’s largest city. It is the home
of the Motown sound, Greek town one of the city's
most exciting nightlife, restaurant and entertainment
districts and Comerica Park, home of the Detroit
Tigers.
Alternative vacationing options in Michigan include
the famous resort of Mackinaw City, Grand Rapids
and Ann Arbor.
