Local Fare - Small, neighborhood eateries are a good place to try local-style food, Expect plenty of meat that is usually deep-fried or marinated in a teriyaki sauce or grilled pulehu-style over an open fire. Rice is a Kauai staple, even for breakfast, and often served alongside potato-macaroni salad, an island specialty. Another local favorite is poke, made from chunks of raw tuna or octopus seasoned with sesame oil, soy sauce, onions, and pickled seaweed. It's a great pupu (appetizer) when paired with a cold beer.

  • Dani's Restaurant - Located in Lihue. A favorite among local people for breakfast, this restaurant offers a nonchalant mix of typical Hawaiian, Polynesian, American, and Japanese dishes on their menu and they are open daily for breakfast and lunch.

  • Roy's Poipu Bar and Grill - Located at Poipu Shopping Village in Poipu. Enjoy an extensive, frequently changing menu of Pacific Rim cuisine at this fine dining restaurant that blends European techniques with Asian flavors and ingredients of the Pacific. Wines by the glass are available to complement your meal, as well as full bar service. They are open nightly for dinner.

    American - Kauai has plenty of traditional American eateries serving large portions of, beef, fresh seafood, burgers, pizza, sandwiches, surf-and-turf combos and homemade desserts.

  • Brennecke's Beach Broiler Restaurant - Located in Poipu right on the beach, this fun and upbeat restaurant is best known for their fresh fish specials that are charbroiled over Kiawe charcoal plus they serve a wide variety of entrees such as steaks, prime rib, and sandwiches. They also feature a second-to-none salad bar to complement your meal and are open daily for lunch and dinner.

  • Bubba's Burger - Located in Kapaa. An old-fashioned hamburger stand that offers lanai seating overlooking the scenic Kapaa Beach Park and the Pacific Ocean and serves outstanding hamburgers daily for lunch and dinner.

    Ethnic – Kauai offers a wide variety of ethnic cuisines to choose from, including unique Vietnamese, Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Thai and Filipino selections that are sure to stimulate the taste buds. American favorites such Mexican and Italian cuisines are also available on Kauai.

  • Pattaya Asian Café - Located in Poipu Shopping Village in Koloa, this inviting, casual dining restaurant offers a wide variety of Asian cuisines on their menu including Thai, Chinese, and Vietnamese cuisines. Outdoor dining is available on the breezy terrace.

  • Restaurant Kiibo - Located in Lihue. A local neighborhood favorite that is filled with Japanese folk art and offers an array of tasty, home style, authentic Japanese dishes such as sushi, ramen, sukiyaki, tempura, teriyaki, and teishoku specials.

  • La Bamba Mexican Restaurant - Located in Lihue. Substantial portions of authentic, hearty Mexican cuisine, such as sizzling fajitas and chilies rellenos, are served at this restaurant.

  • Keoki's Paradise Restaurant and Bar - Located in Koloa. Designed to resemble a dockside boathouse, this unique open-air restaurant features an outdoor Polynesian atmosphere and offers a wide range of seafood including the fresh catch-of-the-day prepared in a half dozen different ways. They also serve prime rib, prime steaks, chicken, and ribs and feature an on site Bamboo Bar that offers a seafood and cafe bar, tropical cocktails, and live Hawaiian entertainment on Friday and Saturday evenings.
