The German Amana Colonies
The German Amana Colonies are seven villages situated
along the Iowa River. They welcome tourists to
the Museum of Amana History, Community Church,
Communal Kitchen Museum and the Cooper Shop Museum.
They are renowned for their friendly nature, and
their German heritage is evident in the local
restaurants, which serve family-style portions
of traditional dishes.
Danish Windmill Museum and Welcome Center
Come take a guided tour of the authentic windmill
from Denmark built in 1848 and transported to
Elk Horn in 1975. The mill grinds wheat and rye
by wind power. See a 10-minute video, and tour
the 60-foot mill, gears and grinding stones.
Blank Park Zoo – Des Moines
Visit Des Moines' Blank Park Zoo where you'll
find more than 800 intriguing animals nestled
in 22 acres of naturalistic settings.
Amboy Trail Ranch
The Amboy Trail Ranch is located just outside
of Newton, Iowa on over 100 acres of beautiful
woodland. Visitors can enjoy a log guest cabin,
trail rides, riding lessons, hayrides and more.
Pella Historic Village
Throughout the year Pella's Historical Village
and Scholte Gardens preserve the spirit of Dutch
heritage. Exhibits feature Old World antiques
and the Miniature Dutch Village. Wooden shoe makers,
Dutch food, flower shows, traditional Dutch crafts,
steam engines and a churning grist mill crown

Mid American Air Museum
The museum features an exciting collection of
military, commercial and general aviation artifacts
and memorabilia starting with the Wright Flyer
to the Space Shuttle. View military, general aviation
and homebuilt static displayed aircraft. The museum
also offers hands-on aero-science displays.
