Introduction

The island group of Hawaii lies 3860km off mainland USA, the state of Hawaii consists of eight islands, of which seven are inhabited and six allow visitors. The islands support rainforest, green flatlands and a variety of other climates – in fact, of 13 climatic regions, Hawaii has all but two. Hawaii stands apart from the USA, with an ethnically diverse population and a rich Polynesian heritage. Traditional Hawaiian cuisine and Pacific Rim cuisine has supplied the islands with many good restaurants that emphasise both the islands abundance of fresh fish and island-grown produce. Hawaii's most popular islands include Oahu, Maui, Kauai and Hawaii or the ‘Big Island'.

Oahu contains the capital, Honolulu, and is the most commercialised, while Hawaii is the biggest island. Oahu has two diagonal mountain ranges (the Waianae and Koolau), with many beautiful waterfalls, w hile at the base of these mountains are more than 50 beach parks, emphasising the diversity of Hawaii's terrain.

Maui is justifiably one of the top beach-vacation spots in the world and offer's a range of activities from cycling, swimming, snorkelling, surfing, windsurfing to whale watching in the winter. Kauai, the least developed of Hawaii 's four major islands, it offers stunning natural beauty including its central volcanic peak Mt Waialeale one of the rainiest places on earth.

While the Big Island especially along the Kona Coast offer's visitors a chance to see the world's most active volcano and explore Hawaii Volcanoes National Park in addition to Hawaii's trademark beaches and tropical terrain.
